What is the karma program?
Community is a central value here at the Akash Between. We believe cultivating a sense of collective belonging within community is one of the pillars to wellness, as well as integral to enacting social justice. Giving back to our communities is therefore one of our company missions and a way we are working to make yoga more accessible and inclusive.
Our karma program supports one non-profit organization or charitable foundation from our communities each quarter through a two-tiered approach of 1. raising awareness and 2. raising funds. Through featuring organizations on our blog and social media, we aim to amplify attention towards the amazing work so many small organizations are doing on the ground. Through hosting a community karma class ‘by donation’ to the general public (where yoga students donate what they can to attend), 100% of the donated proceeds go directly to the monthly organization.
Each year we offer 3 scholarships as part of our mission to make yoga more accessible. The scholarships include an annual membership to our virtual studio, one 30-minute 1:1 session and monthly check-ins.
Applications are open to anyone who identifies as low-income, resides in a low-income country, is BIPOC and/or non-binary.
To apply, reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line ‘Yoga Scholarship’ and briefly share why you wish to join our community and how you (or whoever you are nominating) would benefit from our yoga scholarship program.
Application deadlines are December 30th, 2020 and our three scholarship recipients will be announced on January 1st, 2021.
The Akash Between aims to be a safe and supportive space for all bodies. We offer free monthly classes for BIPOC yoga students, taught by a BIPOC teacher. Donations are welcome, but absolutely not necessary. Any donated funds received will go directly to the organization of the month in our karma program.
If you represent a non-profit organization or charitable foundation and would like to participate in our karma program, or you would like to nominate one from your community, please reach out via email@example.com
